Senate takes first step in repealing Obamacare

Trump, GOP plan on keeping this campaign promise

(NationalSentinel) On a partisan vote, the Senate passed a budget resolution measure that is the first step toward repealing Obamacare, a top priority for President-elect Donald J. Trump.

As reported by USA Today, the 51-48 vote now means the measure will go to the House, where it will be taken up Friday:

Republicans said the 2010 health care law is broken and must be repealed and replaced with something better — although just what that replacement plan will look like has not yet been revealed by congressional leaders. Critics of the law cite sky-rocketing premiums, high deductibles and fewer health care choices for patients as insurers pull out of the program.

As usual, the ‘mainstream’ media gets this one wrong. Republicans have several plans, but generally speaking, most of them involve some combination of re-implementing health savings accounts, allowing interstate sales of health insurance plans, local insurance pooling and other free-market solutions to bolster choice, lower costs and boost competition in the health marketplace.

“When Obamacare’s supporters forced their partisan law on our country, they promised an easy-to-use system; one that would lower premiums and out-of-pocket health care costs; one that would foster choice and allow families to keep the plans and doctors they liked,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. “But it didn’t take long for the American people to discover the truth about Obamacare. Too many have been personally hurt by this law. Too many feel they’re worse off than they were before Obamacare.”

Democrats are countering with a straw man, which is also typical. They are ‘warning’ that millions of Americans will lose coverage if the law goes away, but again–not true. Any Republican repeal measure will include a ‘replace’ as well, meaning no one is going to lose coverage, as Trump and GOP leaders have said all along. Plus, the GOP knows that it will have to phase in any replacement plan over months or even a few years.

What is almost comical were it not so serious, top Democrats are actually saying a new Republican solution will do what Obamacare has done and is doing.

“Premiums will skyrocket,” Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., said during debate. “Out-of-pocket prescription drug costs will rise. And overall health care costs will increase. It’s a perfect storm to make America sick again — and absolutely the wrong direction for families and for our economy.”

Make America sick again. There’s the Dem talking point.

Most Americans won’t buy that–because they are already spending money buying monthly insurance ‘coverage’ they can’t afford and can’t use under the current Obamacare system, which Democrats alone own. Not a single Republican voted for the Affordable Care Act.

It will take some political finagling and a bit of time, but a better plan for American health care is on its way, and not a moment too soon. Trump and the GOP majority are on the hook to repeal this monstrosity; they have to deliver.
