Trump says he may strip ALL federal funding from ‘out of control’ California over sanctuary policy

Is this going to become the modern-day trigger for secession?

(NationalSentinel) In his pre-Super Bowl interview with Fox News on Sunday, President Donald J. Trump was asked by interviewer Bill O’Reilly about “sanctuary cities” that shelter illegal immigrant criminals from federal authorities, and California’s push to become a “sanctuary state.”

His answer should chill every elected member of the California Assembly.

Already threatening to put a secession ballot measure up for a vote, Trump may give the state another reason to want to leave: If voters decide to implement a sanctuary policy statewide, the president has threatened to cut off all federal funds.

“If we have to, we’ll defund,” Trump said. “We give tremendous amounts of money to California, California in many ways is out of control, as you know.”

Trump added that he frankly did not want to do that, but the Left-wing idiots running the state may force his hand.

“I think it’s ridiculous. Sanctuary cities, as you know, I’m very much opposed to sanctuary cities. They breed crime, there’s a lot of problems,” Trump said. Addressing the funding question, “if they’re going to have sanctuary cities, we may have to do that. Certainly that would be a weapon,” he added.

In his most recent State of the State Address, California Gov. Jerry Brown sounded a defiant tone, McClatchy reported.

“I recognize that under the Constitution, federal law is supreme and that Washington determines immigration policy. But as a state we can and have had a role to play. California has enacted several protective measures for the undocumented: the Trust Act, lawful driver’s licenses, basic employment rights and non-discriminatory access to higher education,” Brown said in his State of the State. “We may be called upon to defend those laws and defend them we will.”

So Brown admits that the Constitution’s Supremacy clause gives all immigration authority to the federal government, but he doesn’t care; he’s choosing lawlessness.

It’s likely the states of the Confederacy thought they, too, were “doing the right thing” when they seceded from the Union over the issue of slavery and how best to resolve it. Will California push that envelope over the issue of illegal aliens in our midst?
