House Intel chair wants FBI to investigate mounting leaks aimed at delegitimizing Trump White House

Congress and the White House had better get to the bottom of all this and soon

(NationalSentinel) The chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is demanding answers from the FBI, in particular why former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn was secretly recorded talking to a Russian diplomat.

The Washington Post reported that Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., the intelligence committee chief, said that is the most important aspect of the case surrounding Flynn.

“I expect for the FBI to tell me what is going on, and they better have a good answer,” said Nunes, whose committee is conducting a review of alleged Russian activities to influence the election. “The big problem I see here is that you have an American citizen who had his phone calls recorded.”

U.S. intelligence regularly monitors Russian diplomatic facilities, and the Russians do the same to our facilities as well. But what Nunes is talking about largely is that some agency – most likely the NSA – not only monitored the call made by Flynn, but the summarily identified him and then illegally leaked it to the media.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said he had no plans to further probe links between Flynn and Russia. “It’s taken care of itself at this point,” he said.

And House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said he was “not going to prejudge the circumstances” of Flynn’s calls, adding that the most troublesome aspect appeared to be that Flynn was less than honest about his conversations with Vice President Mike Pence.

Nunes said it was “very hard to believe” that Flynn was acting as “some sort of secret Russian agent,” the Post reported.

And he added that he saw no shortage of hypocrisy in the response of Democrats to the Flynn recording.

“Where are all the privacy groups screaming now?” he asked.
