Trump tells ‘Dreamer’ aliens not to worry as Sessions warns criminal aliens and ‘sanctuary’ cities

Rounding up gang members and criminals will make America much greater than rounding up high school students

(NationalSentinelImmigration: After decades of teeth-gnashing and legislative gridlock over ‘what to do about illegal immigration,’ President Donald J. Trump appears to have found precisely the right solution.

Though the insane Left and #nevertrumpers on the right will never give him credit, Trump said in an interview with The Associated Press on Friday that illegal aliens who entered the country as children, with parents – the so-called “Dreamers” – do not have to worry about being deported.

Illegals enrolled in the President Barack Obama’s “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” DACA program can “rest easy,” Trump said, because “this is a case of heart,” Breitbart News noted, quoting the AP interview.

Federal law enforcement and immigration agencies are “not [going] after the ‘dreamers,’ we are after the criminals,” he said, using Democrats’ euphemism for those brought into the U.S. illegally as children. “That’s our policy.”

Meanwhile, Attorney General Jeff Sessions warned so-called “sanctuary cities” they are at risk of losing Justice Department grants, saying “enough is enough.”

CBS News reported:

The Justice Department sent the letters to the state of California, as well as the cities of Chicago, New Orleans, New York and Philadelphia, and Clark County, Nevada, Cook County, Illinois, Miami-Dade County, Florida, and Milwaukee County, Wisconsin — all of which are jurisdictions former President Barack Obama identified as potentially violating the law, Sessions said.

“Sanctuary jurisdictions put known gang members back on the streets to rejoin the West Side gang in Escondido,” Sessions said while flanked by Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly and Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. “Just the other day it was reported that a local prosecutor in California went so far as to intentionally lower violent and heinous domestic abuse charges against a repeat offender so that the abuser wouldn’t be deported.”

Critics of Trump’s decision are already panning it as a major flip-flop, Breitbart News noted:

Trump’s support for the DACA program is one of his biggest “flip-flops,” said Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies. “During the campaign, now-President Trump had said he was going to end that on day one because it’s an unconstitutional action by the president,” Krikorian told Breitbart News Daily SiriusXM host Alex Marlow on Friday.

Krikorian is right in that yes, Obama’s actions were unconstitutional. But honestly, does he want the administration rounding up 12-18-year-old high school students or MS-13 gang members and repeat criminal offenders? Not only would the ‘mainstream’ media plaster their sobbing faces on every web site and TV broadcast possible, but Trump is exactly right in focusing resources on the most dangerous illegal aliens: The criminals and gang members.

As for future illegal immigrant problems, the Trump administration – simply by enforcing most immigration laws and beefing up border security – has already reduced illegal crossings to a 17-year low.

People who continue trying to put Trump into an ideological box will continue to be disappointed in some of the things he’s going to do as president. Remember that he’s not an ideological conservativeso he’s not going to govern as one. Some of his policies will be conservative, others will not, but overall, Trump is a ton better than a Hillary Clinton or a Jeb Bush would have been. And neither of those two would have been as serious as Trump is about actually enforcing immigration law at the border.

His approach to the illegal immigration issue, thus far, appears to have struck just the right balance. He should be applauded for it.
