(NationalSentinel) Iran: A U.S. Navy warship in the Persian Gulf was again forced to fire warning flares at an approaching Iranian Revolutionary Guards vessel as it sailed dangerously close.
The Associated Press reported the incident:
A U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer fired a warning flare toward an Iranian Revolutionary Guard vessel coming near it in the Persian Gulf, an American official said on Wednesday, the latest tense naval encounter between the two countries.
The incident happened Monday as the vessel attempted to draw closer to the USS Mahan despite the destroyer trying to turn away from it, said Lt. Ian McConnaughey, a spokesman for the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet.
The “Mahan made several attempts to contact the Iranian vessel by bridge-to-bridge radio, issuing warning messages and twice sounding the internationally recognized danger signal of five short blasts with the ship’s whistle, as well as deploying a flare to determine the Iranian vessel’s intentions,” McConnaughey said in a statement to The Associated Press.
The Iranian vessel came within 1,000 meters (1,100 yards) of the Mahan during the incident, the lieutenant said. The vessel later turned and sailed away.
U.S. and Iranian naval vessels routinely engage in tense standoffs, with the latter most often the provocateur. Worse, the incidents have really increased since the Obama administration made its “nuclear deal” with Iran, which essentially gave Tehran everything while the U.S. and the world got a slight delay on a nuclear-armed Iran (maybe).
What is interesting to note is that, judging by these continued provocations, the Iranians still don’t understand that they’re not dealing with Obama and his limp-wristed Middle East foreign policy anymore. In President Donald J. Trump, they are dealing with a commander-in-chief who is well-briefed on American military capabilities and willing to let his generals and admirals flex some muscle when needed.
As we reported in February, Trump doesn’t appear to be of the mind to allow a regional power at best to dictate U.S. foreign policy – and we said that before he ordered an aircraft carrier battle group to waters off North Korea, destroyed a Syrian air base following a gas attack, and leveled an ISIS cave complex with the biggest non-nuclear bomb in our arsenal:
The fact is, the Iranians have been empowered by Obama to believe they’re something more than they are. And should Tehran’s mullahs be stupid enough to think that they can attack a U.S. ship or base in the Middle East with impunity – because they think President Donald Trump is a buffoon leading an administration full of buffoons – they’ll quickly find out that’s not the case.
Because the fact is, if Iran tries a “strong slap in the face,” the Trump administration will kick Iran’s ass. It’s just that simple. And probably in record time.
We stand by the prediction.
