When it comes to press freedom, France proves it is no America

The French government has banned reporting on a major scandal involving the leading presidential candidate

(NationalSentinel) Political Speech: The Marxist Left in America, which is pretty much everyone who belongs to the Democratic Party, would love nothing more than to have the power to silence political speech they did not agree with, rendering conservatives, libertarians and even some moderates completely moot.

In other words, they would love to have the power of the French government, which – in the middle of a heated presidential campaign – has just silenced opposition reporting.

According to NewsTarget, a major scandal is breaking involving the Left-wing candidate, Emmanuel Macron, who is being accused of dodging the French tax man by stashing cash in an offshore account in the Cayman Islands. That’s certainly something that French citizens should and ought to know, you would think.

Only, their media has been ordered to keep quiet about it.

Why?

Because a new law just took effect banning the French media from reporting anything – now get this – anything that could influence the election outcome!

As reported by the UK’s Independent:

France’s electoral commission has ordered media not to publish contents of Emmanuel Macron’s leaked campaign emails to avoid influencing the election.

It warned news outlets in France that journalists could face criminal charges for publishing or republishing the material, under laws that came into effect at midnight forbidding any commentary liable to affect the presidential race.

There were fears the hack could swing Sunday’s final vote, where Mr Macron was expected to comfortably beat far-right candidate Marine Le Pen.

That is just incredible – a supposed “democracy” forbidding its media from reporting information that could help voters make a more informed choice when selecting the leader of their country.

Instead, the French Left, which has dominated government years, believes that its citizens should be kept in the dark about their candidates’ potentially illegal activities.

The French (and Macron) are blaming a familiar enemy – the Russians – for hacking emails and other data that was published on the /pol/ feed on 4Chan, where other scandals have been revealed. But the real story, regardless of who hacked what, is whether the documents alleging tax fraud on the part of Macron are real and the story is valid.

As much as Democrats hate a completely free and open press, our founders believed that the media’s job was precisely that – holding the powerful to account (not attacking one political party while giving the other party a complete pass).

Apparently, the French see no utility in that, which will come back to haunt them someday. Count on it.
