(NationalSentinel) Immigration: The conservatives who run the state of Texas are not waiting around for the Trump administration to battle open-borders Marxists and corporatists in the Justice Department’s bid to force cities providing sanctuary to illegal immigrants and visa overstays into compliance with federal immigration laws.
While Gov. Greg Abbott and his Republican legislative majority certainly are in agreement with President Donald J. Trump’s desire to punish sanctuary cities financially, they are taking matters into their own hands in their own state.
As reported by the Dallas Morning News, Abbott – live on Facebook, no doubt – signed legislation over the weekend banning cities in the state from providing sanctuary to illegal immigrants:
The law will ban cities, counties and universities from prohibiting their local law enforcement officers from asking about immigration status and enforcing immigration law. It will create a criminal charge for police chiefs, county sheriffs and constables who violate the ban and will charge local jurisdictions up to $25,000 for each day they are in violation.
The law will also allow police officers to ask about a person’s immigration status during any legal detention, which could include a routine traffic stop. Opponents have likened the law to Arizona’s “papers, please” legislation, parts of which were struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Elected or appointed officials who violate the ban could be removed from office — another portion of the law that is likely to face legal challenges.
The usual Left-wing suspects – immigrant “rights” groups, Democrats, illegal immigrants – are already whining about the law and have promised legal challenges. Abbott essentially said ‘bring it on,’ noting that key provisions of the law have already been tested (and upheld) at the U.S. Supreme Court.
The point is, states and the federal government – under Trump – have had it with the open borders mindset. States, especially, since state and local governments have to pick up the tab for all kinds of services required and used by illegal aliens who, obviously, don’t pay for them. Also, they are growing weary of the crime associated with more violent illegals, such as those belonging to the MS-13 criminal gang.
This isn’t ‘racist,’ ‘bigoted,’ or ‘unfair’ – it’s about enforcing the law, which, not unsurprisingly, the Left is rarely interested in unless it suits their political objectives and purposes.
