Trump hits back, calls special counsel appointment ‘greatest witch hunt’ ever

Democrats are laying the groundwork for frivolous and unfounded impeachment proceedings against one of their future presidents

(National SentinelPolitics: After issuing an entirely measured response to yesterday’s announcement by the Justice Department’s No. 2, Rod Rosenstein, announced he would appoint former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate alleged Russian interference in the November elections, President Donald J. Trump took to twitter this morning to give a more characteristic response.

And:

These responses differ from the response he gave Wednesday evening after the Mueller’s appointment had been announced.

“As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know — there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity,” Trump said. “I look forward to this matter concluding quickly. In the meantime, I will never stop fighting for the people and the issues that matter most to the future of our country.”

There is no question that the president is right: This is a massive witch hunt and, as The Daily Caller reminded us this morning, all of this ‘impeachment’ talk was taking place before Trump even entered office. In fact, it started right after he secured the GOP nomination last summer:

Months before Donald Trump was even nominated for president at the Republican National Convention, the possibility of impeaching President Trump was already being floated in political circles.

“‘Impeachment’ is already on the lips of pundits, newspaper editorials, constitutional scholars, and even a few members of Congress,” read an April 2016 Politico piece, titled, “Could Trump Be Impeached Shortly After He Takes Office?”

“They’ll be talking impeachment on day two, after the first Trump executive order,” conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh predicted a month before the Politico piece. “You might finally get to see unified opposition to the guy.”

“The only way Obama has gotten away with all this authoritarian executive order stuff is the Republican Party hasn’t stopped him. You want to see an opposition party in action, take a look at Democrats down the road,” he added.

Democrats who are championing the unprecedented assault against a Republican president should be careful what they wish for; should a Democrat defy the odds and somehow win the presidency at some point in the future, they will have already laid the groundwork for frivolous and unfounded removal from office of said president.

In other words, what goes around, comes around.
