(National Sentinel) Race: Leaders of the progressive Left are always demanding Americans have a frank, open discussion about matters of race, but they don’t mean it.
What they really mean is they want to lecture everyone, unchallenged, about the alleged “injustices” faced by minorities who are “victimized” daily and “offended” by “white privilege” and other imagined, contrived social constructs that they themselves have had a hand in creating.
If we’re to seriously discuss issues of race and bigotry following the sad, sickening events in Charlottesville, Va., this weekend, then we must begin with some truths that far too many on the Left find uncomfortable:
A) Not all white people are racist bigots
B) Being a white conservative does not automatically make you a racist bigot
C) There are some minorities — blacks, Hispanics, Asians — who are racist bigots
D) Some on the Left make the biggest bigots and racists
These facts are relevant and must be acknowledged if we are to look at the events in Charlottesville through an unfiltered lens.
So the haters don’t get to define me and what I’m saying, I abhor racists…of any color. I am conservative so I naturally oppose most thinking on the Left, but… I hate that there were white bigots who gathered in Virginia this past weekend. It disgusts me that one of them likely killed and injured other human beings over racial hatred.
But you know what? There were plenty of bigots on the other side as well.
And there is also this fact: After years of attacking everything white in the Age of Obama, the Left bears most of the responsibility for what took place in Virginia.
That’s right, the Left.
If anyone has led to the rise of white bigotry, it’s the progressive Left, which has systematically and relentlesslty attacked every single institution of whiteness relentlessly for the past decade.
Like Robert E. Lee or not, respect what he and the Confederacy stood for or not (Hint: It wasn’t all about slavery), are progressives really surprised by the anger generated over the removal of the Confederacy’s most beloved figure?
How would conservatives expect progressives to respond if they attempted to remove, say, ALL monuments that are culturally important to the Left, like Martin Luther King or George Washington Carver?
Of course, we know the answer: Progressives would respond with vitriol, disgust and violence.
So why are they surprised by the reaction in Charlottesville?
A better compromise in Charlottesville would have been for the city to leave the Lee statue as is and add a element celebrating a positive outcome of the Civil War — say, renaming the place where the Lee memorial stands “Emancipation Park.”
Oh, wait…they did that. But not without removing the Lee monument.
The problem is that our society allows progressives get away with this kind of cultural theft, and in doing so claiming certain things about certain people that aren’t true: In particular, that all whites are racist bigots deep down, and that if you’re a minority in America you’re some saint who can do no wrong or harbor any ill-will or feelings towards members of other races.
It’s bullshit. All lives really do matter.
Charlottesville is the inevitable result of this Left-wing groupthink.
First daughter and advisor Ivanka Trump tweeted yesterday there is no place in American society for white supremacy and neo-Nazi sentiment:
I couldn’t agree more.
But there is also no place in our society for efforts to rewrite history or completely eradicate an entire culture, just because the purveyors of political correctness have deemed it unworthy. That’s what authoritarians do.
“The core assertion of the Left…is that white people have no right to history or culture. Thus, all monuments, flags and history of ‘white’ America must be wiped clean in a kind of ‘cultural genocide’ run by the intolerant Left. While the culture of African-Americans, Muslims and ‘progressives’ must be celebrated and rewarded, all symbols of “white America” are to be demolished in a style that frankly looks a lot like communist China’s Cultural Revolution,” writes one observer.
It’s hard to argue with that. But of course, the Left will never see it, which means we’re going to see more Charlottesville’s in the future.
