(National Sentinel) Political toxicity: A Missouri lawmaker who called for President Donald J. Trump’s assassination and immediately drew rebuke from the Republican-controlled state Legislature is refusing calls for her resignation.
As reported by The Kansas City Star:
Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal was adamant Friday that she isn’t resigning over a Facebook post calling for President Donald Trump’s assassination.
Chappelle-Nadal, a University City Democrat, has faced calls by Missouri’s top Democrats and Republicans demanding she resign from the legislature over a comment she posted on her personal Facebook Thursday: “I hope Trump is assassinated.”
Among those calling for her resignation were the chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party and U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Chappelle-Nadal deleted the comment and said posting it was a mistake. She said she posted the comment out of frustration with Trump’s statements about recent events in Charlottesville, Va., where an alleged white supremacist drove his car into a crowd near the city’s downtown mall, killing a 32-year-old woman.
In a series of tweets, however, she remained defiant and didn’t really sound much like she was ‘sorry.’
“I am not resigning,” Chappelle-Nadal, who is black, said. “When (people of color) are respected by this (White House) & they are willing to do real work, I’ll sit down with them. People are traumatized!”
First of all, good for McCaskill, who is a Democrat, for echoing the call for this woman to resign; no one but her knows for sure, but it should be said that McCaskill is up for reelection in a very red state, so there’s that.
But secondly, if you’re way past being sick and tired of black politicians justifying the most heinous threats and speech against President Trump because they have ‘decided’ that Trump’s a racist (which is completely made up since he’s not), you’re not alone. Tens of millions of Americans are fed up with Democrats, and especially Democrats of color, who think they have some inherent right to say things about Trump that should never be said about any president.
That this disgusting woman is actually an elected member of a state Legislature tells us something about the people in her district, as well; there’s been no groundswell effort to condemn her there [Full disclosure: USA Features Media LLC, our parent company, is based in Missouri].
Chappelle-Nadal should not only resign, but she should also get a nasty visit from the U.S. Secret Service and, if agents determine legitimate intent, she should be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
If people continue to get away with saying things like this about Trump, someone is going to try it someday. And everyone who has said ‘I hope Trump is assassinated’ will be culpable.
Beyond that, Democrats should rebuke this woman and relegate her political career to the ash heap of history. She doesn’t deserve the privilege of elected office.Click here for reuse options!
