(National Sentinel) The Swamp: Former FBI Director James Comey began drafting a letter that would clear Hillary Clinton of any wrongdoing regarding her “alleged” mishandling of classified emails months before agents finished their investigation.
As reported by Fox News, Comey had made his decision even before his agents had a chance to interview more than a dozen key witnesses — including Clinton herself.
“Conclusion first, fact-gathering second—that’s no way to run an investigation,” Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham wrote in a letter this week to the FBI. “The FBI should be held to a higher standard than that, especially in a matter of such great public interest and controversy.”
“According to the unredacted portions of the transcripts, it appears that in April or early May of 2016, Mr. Comey had already decided he would issue a statement exonerating Secretary Clinton,” the senators said.
“That was long before FBI agents finished their work. Mr. Comey even circulated an early draft statement to select members of senior FBI leadership. The outcome of an investigation should not be prejudged while FBI agents are still hard at work trying to gather the facts.”
In the Wednesday letter to FBI Director Chris Wray, the two senators said they have requested all records relating to the drafting of the statement.
Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said that Comey’s “got a lot of explaining to do.” He added that the former FBI director also may have perjured himself, because lawmakers asked him under oath how it was possible to clear her just a few days after she was interviewed.
During an appearance on “Hannity” Thursday, an attorney for President Donald J. Trump, who fired Comey earlier this year, was highly critical of Comey’s stated reason for clearing Clinton so quickly after interviewing her — because his boss, then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch met with former President Bill Clinton in Arizona days before.
“Here’s the fact. Evidently he already made up his mind three months before the investigation really got underway. This whole thing was a fraud on the American people,” said Sekulow.
And yet, it’s Trump who’s under investigation by a special counsel — a special counsel that Comey helped arrange, by the way.
Tie all of this in with the recent report that the FBI is refusing standard Freedom of Information Act requests from Ty Clevenger, an attorney in New York City, filed in March of 2016l who is asking for a variety of documents from the FBI and the Justice Department, including correspondence exchanged with Congress about the Clinton email investigation, and we’d say there are still Deep State actors within the bureau working to protect Clinton (and perhaps Comey; and Lynch; and Obama; and…etc.).
The next steps are up to the Justice Department, but if someone isn’t charged in this mess — that is, someone other than the president, who appears to be among the only innocent people the nation’s capital — then it will become obvious we no longer have a functional legal system.
