(National Sentinel) NFL Hell: NFL players on Sunday continued to hasten the demise of a sport that pays them millions per year as more joined in protesting their country by kneeling during the National Anthem.
But in a move that would have made King George smile with content, the earliest protests came from players on the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars as they prepared to play the first game of Week 3 at Wembley Stadium…in Great Britain.
No doubt that much of the protesting was in response to President Donald J. Trump’s criticism of protesting players on Friday during a political rally in support of incumbent U.S. Sen. Luther Strange, who is facing a tough primary challenge from Judge Roy Moore.
During the rally, Trump called on Americans fed up with the disrespect to “boycott” any team featuring protesting players. He also said, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b***h off the field right now!’?” Trump boomed at his rally, which was followed up with chants of “USA! USA!” from the crowd.
“If you see it – even if it’s one player – leave the stadium. I guarantee things will stop,” the president advised.
This morning’s disrespect of the Anthem — and the vast majority of Americans who revere it — as reported by the Washington Post, was very one-sided:
One Ravens player stood alone, but seemed to be in prayer. All players appeared to stand for the playing of the British anthem, “God Save the Queen.”
Apparently, the protesting players believe social injustice is limited to their own country.
We can’t think of anything that will infuriate NFL fans who had been sitting on the fence this season over these protests more than watching players disrespect their own country on foreign soil while showing respect to the other country instead. How utterly tone-deaf do you have to be — or full of hate — to not see that?
For his part, Trump on Sunday called for a boycott of the NFL and for owners and coaches to get rid of players who won’t respect the anthem.
“If NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our country, you will see change take place fast,” Trump wrote on Twitter, on the second weekend morning in a row in which he vented over the issue on social media. “Fire or suspend!”
