(National Sentinel) Sports Fail: As NFL players continue to sabotage their league and their future earning potential with “protests” of the American flag, mom, pop, apple pie, the National Anthem, and every other closely held tradition by a majority of the country, the league’s TV ratings slide deepens.
As reported by The Associated Press, viewership is down 11 percent over the first three weeks of the 2017 season, and there are no signs of improvement on the horizon, at least as long as millionaire, mostly black players continue their disrespect of the majority of fans over a myth:
Through three weeks, viewership for national telecasts of NFL games is down 11 percent this season compared to 2016, the Nielsen company said on Tuesday.
Nielsen said the games averaged 17.63 million viewers for the first three weeks of last season, and have dipped to 15.65 million this year. The Nielsen figures don’t include many of the Sunday afternoon games that are shown to a regional audience, but not a national one.
The NFL ratings are in focus because of President Donald Trump’s suggestion that viewers are turned off by a protest against police brutality that began with quarterback Colin Kaepernick refusing to stand for the national anthem. The protests spread rapidly this past weekend following the president’s criticism of people involved.
To believe that viewership is down for any other reason than because of those protests and, more specifically, the false premise behind them — that America’s police are inherently racist, bigoted, and biased against black people to the point of murdering them arbitrarily — is to be about as tone-deaf and clueless as it gets.
Most Americans — of any ethnicity — will freely admit that yes, in some instances some police officers’ behavior and actions have been out of line and even criminal. But in the vast majority of those cases, the justice system has worked and officers have been punished.
But players are using instances of when officers have shot and killed unarmed black men who have resisted arrest, attacked officers, and sometimes committed other criminal acts and have been acquitted of murder charges as “examples” of why they believe there is no social justice in America.
Most Americans — and, obviously, most football fans — don’t see it that way and have no issue with police officers using deadly violence against anyone of any skin color who attacks them. They also know that cops have tough jobs in the first place, and that without them we don’t have a civil society (which means we wouldn’t have social conditions conducive to the playing of football games).
And they sure don’t think dumping on the American flag, the National Anthem, and the country as a whole are the right vehicles to “protest.”
NFL players need to figure out whether they want to play football and continue to earn seven-figure salaries, or destroy their game with a toxic, infectious, lethal mix of politics, cultural destruction, and social chaos.
If they can’t figure it out, ultimately the NFL fan base and team owners will figure it out for them.
