(National Sentinel) War Drums: President Donald J. Trump called together his military and diplomatic chiefs for talks on the North Korea “crisis,” according to a British newspaper.
The Daily Star is reporting that Trump met with Defense Secretary James Mattis, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and military chiefs in the White House Situation Room, where crisis talks are generally conducted.
The secure room came to prominence thanks to a photograph showing President Obama, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others watching as U.S. special forces raided a compound in Pakistan where Osama bin Laden was holed up. Bin Laden was reportedly killed during the raid.
Tensions between the US and North Korea have been worsening as Kim Jong-un refuses to give up his quest for nuclear-capable ICBMs.
Yesterday, General James Mattis warned the US Army to “stand ready” for war with North Korea.
State Dept. spokeswoman Heather Nauert confirmed the talks but would not provide any details about the discussions.
In recent days Trump tweeted out a cryptic message after meeting with military chiefs the current situation “may be the calm before the storm.”
Some experts speculated that the meeting may have been to discuss options — military and diplomatic — to an expected upcoming missile test or another nuclear test by North Korea Oct. 18.
