Trump-Corker war of words: Prez says senator can’t be ‘elected dogcatcher’ in his home state of Tennessee

“Isn’t it sad that lightweight Senator Bob Corker, who couldn’t get re-elected in the Great State of Tennessee, will now fight Tax Cuts plus?”

(National SentinelSelf-Defense: President Donald J. Trump hit back at Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., after the latter trashed him in the media earlier today, tweeting out that the retiring U.S. senator “couldn’t get elected dog catcher” in his home state.

Also, the president hit Corker over his enabling of the so-called “nuclear deal” with Iran, and said he’s now opposed to helping his party usher in tax cuts for Americans, small businesses and corporations that the president — and Corker, once upon a time — promised last election cycle.

He also said that Corker’s decision not to run for reelection had more to do with the fact that the president had refused to endorse him.

“Corker dropped out of the race in Tennesse [sic] when I refused to endorse him, and now is only negative on anything Trump,” he wrote. “Look at his record!”

Earlier, Corker told ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos that he was standing by earlier comments he made about the White House becoming an “adult daycare center” under Trump.

Corker also described Trump’s upcoming visit to Capitol Hill as a “photo op” and urged him to let Senate Republicans be in charge of tax overhaul policy.

“What I hope is going to happen is the president will leave this effort, if you will, to the tax-writing committees, let them do their work and not begin taking things off the table that ought to be debated in these committees at the proper time,” he said.

well...bye

The last time Congress substantially overhauled taxes was during Ronald Reagan’s administration in the 1980s. Then, Reagan sheparded the cuts through a divided House and Senate, urging bipartisanship. But he was certainly ‘hands-on’ when it came to pitching his plan to the Legislative Branch, so it’s not clear why Corker thinks Trump shouldn’t be involved at all.

Corker has also hit Trump over his involvement in U.S. foreign policy. “Leave it to the professionals for a while,” he said, though presidents, not the State Department or Congress, set foreign policy agendas.

Trump responded in various tweets: “Isn’t it sad that lightweight Senator Bob Corker, who couldn’t get re-elected in the Great State of Tennessee, will now fight Tax Cuts plus! Sen. Corker is the incompetent head of the Foreign Relations Committee, & look how poorly the U.S. has done. He doesn’t have a clue as the entire World WAS laughing and taking advantage of us. People like liddle’ Bob Corker have set the U.S. way back. Now we move forward!”
