(National Sentinel) Congressional Threat: Sen. Lindsey Graham has warned President Donald J. Trump of consequences should the commander-in-chief decide to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.
There “will be holy hell to pay” if Mueller is dismissed, Graham, a South Carolina Republican, told Fox News Monday.
The warning came after Mueller announced the first indictments in his months-long probe that began with alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Indicted: Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and two other aides, on charges not related to any collusion.
When asked to elaborate, Graham said, “I’ve heard nothing from the White House to suggest that the president’s going to try to replace Mr. Mueller. Zero evidence from anybody I’ve talked to. It would be wrong to do so unless there were cause.”
Sources told The Associated Press that the president is growing more concerned that Mueller’s investigation is probing Trump’s business interests.
“No politician should ever be afraid of the American legal system working its will,” Graham told Fox News about many of his colleagues’ refusal to comment on the case.
Meanwhile, other lawmakers said that the ongoing investigation should not derail Congress’ and the president’s agenda, including pushing tax and health care reform.
“Most Americans do, and I don’t see why we can’t,” John N. Kennedy, R-La., said regarding Congress’ ability to multi-task.
