(National Sentinel) Terrorism: President Donald J. Trump ordered the Department of Homeland Security to step up its “extreme vetting” after a terrorist mowed down scores of people in New York City Tuesday, killing eight and injuring 11.
“I have just ordered Homeland Security to step up our already Extreme Vetting Program. Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!” he wrote on Twitter.
The order comes after a man who authorities described as a “lone wolf” drove a rented “Home Depot” truck into a bike path on the West Side in lower Manhattan. It’s the first terrorist attack in New York City since 9/11, and took place only blocks away from the newly built World Trade Center.
During his attack he was heard yelling “Allahu Akbar,” or Arabic for “God is Great.”
A high-ranking police source told PIX11 News the suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov. He’s a resident of Tampa, Fla., who arrived in the United States in 2010 from Uzbekistan, sources told PIX11 News.
Trump’s four-month ban on refugees ended Oct. 24. It’s not clear yet if the president will reimpose it, and administration officials aren’t talking.
Using vehicles to conduct attacks is the new modus operandi of ISIS-linked terrorists, but officials have warned there is little they can do to stop such attacks other than identify individuals beforehand, which they admit is extremely difficult.
