(National Sentinel) Russian Collusion: Special counsel Robert Mueller has sent over a “wide-ranging” request for documents from the Department of Justice, including requests for any emails related to the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, ABC News reported.
In addition, Mueller — who was appointed to look into alleged “collusion” between the Trump campaign and Russia — also wants any emails related to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from any Russia-related probe undertaken by the Justice Department.
A source who has not actually seen the requests but was informed about them also noted that they were made within the past month. The directive “marked the special counsel’s first records request to the Justice Department, and it means Mueller is now demanding documents from the department overseeing his investigation,” ABC News reported.

Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein were key figures in Comey’s firing. The AG has been heavily criticized by President Donald J. Trump over his recusal, with the head of the Executive Branch even saying over the summer he would have nominated someone else to the AG post if he had known Sessions was planning his recusal.
Also, Trump has hit Sessions over Rosenstein’s appointment of Mueller, hinting that it would not have happened had Sessions not recused himself.
Mueller’s investigators now seek not only communications between Justice Department officials themselves, but also any communications with White House counterparts, the source said. Before this request, investigators asked former senior Justice Department officials for information from their time at the department…
The documents request suggests that Mueller’s team is still trying to determine whether the White House had made any attempts to improperly influence an ongoing investigation into Trump-Russia collusion allegations.
Before firing Comey, both Sessions and Rosenstein drafted memos in which they faulted the former FBI director over his handling of the Hillary Clinton email scandal.
Others have suggested that Mueller may be acting on behalf of Comey, who is known to be a long-time friend and associate of the special counsel.
