BOMBSHELL: Top DoJ lawyer DEMOTED as probe of his contacts with Trump dossier firm begins

House investigators have also determined that Ohr met with Glenn Simpson, founder of the firm Fusion GPS

(National SentinelSwamp Corruption: A top official in the Justice Department was demoted earlier this week as an investigation continues into his contacts with a Democrat-aligned political opposition research firm responsible for the creation of the infamous anti-Trump “dossier,” Fox News reports.

Before Wednesday morning, Bruce G. Ohr held a pair of titles at the department — associate deputy attorney general, a position that placed him just four doors down from his boss, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein; and director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, or OCDETF, which is described by DoJ as “the centerpiece of the attorney general’s drug strategy.

For now, Ohr retains his drug task force title but has been stripped of his higher title and post while being ousted from his office on the fourth floor of “Main Justice.”

At first, senior Justice Department officials could not provide a reason for Ohr’s demotion.

However, Fox News discovered that evidence gathered by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which is chaired by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., points to a meeting during the 2016 campaign between Ohr and Christopher Steele, the former British spy who wrote the “dossier.”

Later, a Justice Department official told Fox News: “It is unusual for anyone to wear two hats as he has done recently. This person is going to go back to a single focus—director of our organized crime and drug enforcement unit. As you know, combating transnational criminal organizations and drug trafficking is a top priority for the attorney general.”

While that may true, House investigators have also determined that Ohr met with Glenn Simpson, founder of the firm Fusion GPS, shortly after the Nov. 8, 2016 election. Fusion is the firm that hired Steele to create the dossier, which has been largely debunked but which may have been used by Obama’s FBI and Justice Department to justify opening a counterintelligence probe into President Donald J. Trump’s campaign last year, likely in order to thwart his chances of beating Hillary Clinton.

What’s also noteworthy is that the dossier was funded in large part by the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

The House Intelligence Committee, under Nunes, has been investigating for the better portion of a year to determine if the dossier was in fact used to justify FBI and intelligence community surveillance on the campaign of Clinton’s political rival.

Fox News reported that it was not yet clear how Simpson and Ohr came to know one another. However, initial evidence collected by House Intelligence Committee investigators suggests that both men were put in touch with one another by Steele, who is a former FBI informant and who has had contacts with Ohr dating back to 2006, according to senior DoJ officials.

Meanwhile, Nunes — who has told intelligence committee staff to draw up contempt-of-Congress citations against Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray ahead of a House vote over whether to enforce them — has issued a fresh subpoena on Thursday for more records belonging to and covering Ohr.
