(National Sentinel) Institutional Bias: An attorney on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team who has been referred to by The New York Times as a “pit bull” and the counsel’s “lieutenant” attended Democrat Hillary Clinton’s election night party in New York City.
As reported by the Daily Caller, Andrew Weissmann’s attendance at the party is troubling because it is demonstrative of a pattern of political bias against President Donald J. Trump and Republicans in general.
Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch obtained an email earlier this week revealing that Weissmann praised former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates’ defiance of Trump. The president fired Yates for refusing to defend his first travel ban aimed at seven countries that are rife with terrorist organizations.
“I am so proud. And in awe. Thank you so much. All my deepest respects,” Weissmann wrote to Yates on Jan. 30.
Weissmann is just one of several Democratic supporters hired by Mueller, who is a registered Republican. Weissmann donated a combined $6,600 to the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
The Trump administration says the president has no intention of firing Mueller, despite critics’ calls for him to do so. Calls for Mueller to step down for other demonstrated biases and conflicts of interest have gone unheeded by the special counsel.
Others, including famed Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, have said Trump’s lawyers should begin challenging Mueller because he’s operating far outside of his initial mandate, which was a probe of alleged Team Trump collusion with Russia, a charge for which no one can yet find any evidence.
