Huckabee Sanders: ‘Laughable’ to hear Obama take credit for Trump’s economy (Video)

(National SentinelEconomic Revival: During a speech on climate change last week, former President Barack Obama took credit for the improving U.S. economy, a claim that White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders called “laughable.”

“We saw the longest streak of job creation in American history by far,” Obama stated during his Tuesday speech at the North American Climate Summit in Chicago. “A streak that still continues, by the way. ‘Thanks, Obama.’”

In addition, he said “we saw the U.S. economy grow consistently” after his administration shifted its focus toward carbon regulations and clean energy, Fox News reported.

Sanders, however, pushed back against the former president’s claim.

“I think it’s laughable that President Obama thinks he has anything to do with the success of where the economy is right now,” Sanders said during an appearance on “Watters’ World.”

Watters noted that in November some 200,000 jobs were created and the unemployment rate was the lowest it’s been in 17 years.

“This is all a direct result not just of President Trump’s swearing-in, but from the minute he was elected, consumer confidence got stronger, businesses wanted to participate in our economy again, because they have confidence in this president,” the White House press secretary added.

In addition, she cited the increases in gross domestic product experienced during Trump’s first year in office, topping more than 3 percent for most of the year.

“There’s a reason that it continues to go up, and it started when President Trump was elected and when he got into office,” Sanders added. “It had nothing to do with President Obama, and I think everybody knows it, including President Obama. And I think it’s pretty laughable that he’s trying to take credit for it.”

The Commerce Department released data in November indicating that the U.S. economy few faster in the 3rd quarter than previously believed — 3.3. percent. That was up from 3 percent in the second quarter.

During Obama’s eight years in office, the economy never topped 3 percent, making him the first president in history to have never achieved that level of economic growth.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average surpassed the 19,000, 20,000, 21,000, 22,000, 23,000, and 24,000 marks for the first time in U.S. history under Trump’s administration, all records.

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen told lawmakers in November that “with gradual adjustments in the stance of monetary policy, the economy will continue to expand and the job market will strengthen somewhat further, supporting faster growth in wages and incomes,” Bloomberg reported
