(National Sentinel) Respect: President Donald J. Trump said on Thursday he would like every NFL player who took a knee in protest during the playing of the National Anthem this season to see a powerful photograph to explain why he and scores of Americans believe it is only proper to stand when the anthem is played.
The picture, which is making its rounds on social media this week, is of a woman lying on a blanket next to her husband’s grave with their infant child in a military cemetery, the president said.
It wasn’t clear how the powerful photo made it into the president’s Twitter feed, but he quickly endorsed it.
“So beautiful….Show this picture to the NFL players who still kneel!” he tweeted.
Repeatedly this season Trump has made public calls for all NFL players to stand during the National Anthem as a sign of respect for the American flag and the U.S. military which protects the country.
Trump has also suggested the NFL change its rules to bar kneeling and has encouraged team owners to fire kneeling players.
The kneeling protests were first propelled by former quarterback Colin Kaepernick who wanted to protest violence against black citizens by police officers.
