(National Sentinel) Anti-Trust: An investigation into Google’s new fact-checking service has found that the search-and-media mega-site is overwhelmingly targeting conservative outlets.
As reported by The Daily Caller, liberal and Left-leaning sites are rarely singled out for alleged factual errors. In fact, no prominent liberal sites are being targeted.
“And not only is Google’s fact-checking highly partisan — perhaps reflecting the sentiments of its leaders — it is also blatantly wrong, asserting sites made ‘claims’ they demonstrably never made,” The DC noted.
When searching for a media outlet that leans to the political Right, such as The Daily Caller, Google gives users details on the sidebar that includes what topics the site typically writes about, as well as a section titled “Reviewed Claims.”
Vox and other left-wing outlets and blogs like Gizmodo, are not given the same fact-check treatment. When searching their names, a “Topics they write about” section appears, but there is no “Reviewed Claims” section.
A quick investigation by The National Sentinel confirmed The Daily Caller’s claims.
In searching “The Washington Post,” not only was the “Reviewed Claims” section absent, but there was a section labeled “Awards” in addition to “Writes About.”
That was the same for The New York Times. For CNN, there were no categories at all, like Vox and other Left-leaning outlets searched.
All three — the Times, the Post, and CNN — have published a number of stories on the Trump administration over the past year that proved to be false or had to be retracted, yet there are no “Reviewed Claims” for any of them in Google listings.
ABC News recently suspended one of its reporters, Brian Ross, for filing a fake news story regarding former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, but it, too, has no “reviewed” listings.
