(National Sentinel) War Drums: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a dire warning to the Iranians and Syrians on Sunday following the downing of an Iranian drone inside Israel and the Syrian downing of an Israeli F-16 a day earlier.
The warning came after Israel launched a powerful counterstrike against more than a dozen Syrian and Iranian positions inside the war-torn country.
“We inflicted on Saturday a heavy blow to Iranian and Syrian forces,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of Sunday’s cabinet meeting, Agence France Press reported.
“We made clear to everyone that our rules of engagement will not change in any way. We will continue to harm anyone who tries to harm us. This was our policy and this will remain our policy,” he continued, as reported by AFP.
Meanwhile, additional Israeli leaders reiterated the country’s long-stated intentions of refusing to allow Iran and its proxy, the militant Hezbollah organization, to establish a military presence inside Syria, where Damascus is struggling to regain control over more of the country following a brutal, deadly civil war that has left much of the country in shambles and tens of millions homeless.
Israel has been launching strikes inside Syria for months in an attempt to prevent the Iranians and Hezbollah from establishing a sizeable, threatening military presence.
In addition to the counterstrikes over the weekend, the Israel Defense Force boosted its own air defenses in the northern party of the country, adding Iron Dome and Arrow anti-missile and air defense batteries.
The Iranian drone that penetrated Israeli airspace was said to be a replica of a stealthy U.S.-build model. It was launched from inside Syria then traversed Jordanian airspace for several minutes before entering Israel.
