(National Sentinel) Rational: A conservative-leaning student survivor of the recent school shooting in Parkland, Fla., says he would like the #NeverAgain movement to once again become bipartisan and for the legacy media and liberals to stop focusing solely on “gun control.”
In an interview with The Gateway Pundit, Kyle Kashuv said he leans Republican and that he’s interested in finding real solutions to the problem of school shootings. But sadly, he told the website that his views led him to be “hated” by other students in school and branded an “enemy of the movement.”
One of Kashuv’s recommendations for hardening schools against future attacks is the hiring of unemployed veterans to serve as armed guards because, he says, they could use a good job and they’ve got military experience and training under fire.
“I think it’s a great idea. These veterans are trained and they know what to do,” he told The Gateway Pundit.
“We will both lower veteran unemployment and protect our schools, I think it’s a really good idea,” Kashuv continued. “From what I have perceived, the Left wants fewer guns in schools, so simply saying that we want armed veterans in schools already scares them. They’re already against it 100 percent.”
The Marjorie Stoneman Douglas high school student also said he’s not against the idea of arming teachers, but that anyone who does not want to carry a gun should not be made to.
“They want to give teachers the opportunity to do so, nobody is trying to force anyone,” he told the website.
“In some countries, there is a 15 minute response time for police, but the shots are usually fired in the first five minutes and the casualties have already happened by the time that they have arrived.
“There is no defense against a shooter at all for the first 15 minutes in these cases,” he added.
During an earlier appearance on Fox News, Kashuv was critical of the armed school resource officer, Scot Peterson, who failed to respond when shots were being fired by alleged mass murderer Nikolas Cruz.

Kashuv told the Pundit that he solidly backs efforts to stop future school shootings, but that he would like to see the discussion focus on solutions other than gun control.
“I really want the #NeverAgain movement to go back to being a bipartisan group to end school shootings,” he told the website.
“I want to take away the debate on gun control, because the second gun control is discussed it begins to be argued that proper change won’t be made — at least as far as what needs to be done regarding background checks and mental health screenings.”
The 16-year-old added that he still believes he is part of the #NeverAgain movement and that he would like to speak to someone at the Trump White House sometime about his recommendations.
