(National Sentinel) Nothingburger: A Democratic lawmaker admitted on MSNBC Tuesday morning that ongoing probe into alleged “collusion” between the Trump campaign and the Russian government is a “running joke” between colleagues on his side of the aisle in Congress.
In addition, Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., noted that one of his colleagues said she is never asked about Russians.
“Here’s the thing. My good friend [Dem Rep.] Cheri Bustos who represents a very tough district in Illinois, we have sort of a running joke going in the mornings, which is, she’s got a district very different from mine and I represent Fairfield County, Connecticut,” Himes said in response to a question about Trump-Russia collusion from Washington Post reporter Robert Costa.
“She’s in the heartland in a distinct that we need to figure out how to win again. Every Monday morning when I see Cheri and we come up there’s a little bit of laughter and she says, ‘You know what? My constituents are still not asking me about Russia,” Hines added.
As rank-and-file Democrats trade jokes about the probe, House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Adam Schiff, D-Calif., admitted recently that there was no evidence to substantiate allegations that have been dogging President Donald J. Trump since he defeated Hillary Clinton in November 2016.
The committee’s chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., has said all evidence the panel has seen on the issue actually points to collusion between Russian sources and the Hillary Clinton campaign.
“The more we peel this back, we have clear evidence of collusion but it’s not between the Trump campaign, it’s between the Democratic party and the Hillary campaign and the Russians,” he told Fox Business‘ Neil Cavuto last week.
And yet, special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of the Trump campaign continues, much to the chagrin of critics who say it should end due to a lack of evidence.
