(National Sentinel) Witch Hunt: President Donald J. Trump’s personal lawyer, John Dowd, said now that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has fired former FBI Dep. Director Andrew McCabe, the deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein, should end special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Dowd said that he hoped Rosenstein would follow “the brilliant and courageous example” set by Sessions and shut down Mueller’s investigation since neither he nor a handful of congressional investigations has turned up any Trump campaign collusion with Russia.
After sending the news site President Donald J. Trump’s celebratory tweet regarding the firing, Dowd wrote, “I pray that Acting Attorney General Rosenstein will follow the brilliant and courageous example of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility and Attorney General Jeff Sessions and bring an end to alleged Russia Collusion investigation manufactured by McCabe’s boss James Comey based upon a fraudulent and corrupt Dossier.”
Initially, Dowd said he was speaking as Trump’s counsel, but he later contacted The Daily Beast to say he was really just speaking on his own behalf.
Trump has called the Mueller probe a “witch hunt,” but has not called on the Justice Department to end it.
The president has also said his administration has always cooperated with Mueller’s probe.
On Thursday, Mueller’s team issued a subpoena to the Trump Organization for any documents related to business interactions with Russia.
The Trump Organization has routinely provided documents to various congressional committees conducting their own collusion investigation. The New York Times reported that there was no indication the Trump Organization would oppose Mueller’s subpoena.
