That time when Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell promised Trump a border wall (Video)

(NationalSentinelBroken: Conservatives upset by the Republican congressional majority’s failure to deliver on core components of President Donald J. Trump’s agenda including his border wall are outraged at the party’s leadership for failing to deliver on previous legislative promises.

Their anger has been stoked by the reemergence of a press conference in January 2017 in which House Majority Leader Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pledged to provide funding for the president’s proposed border wall.

Watch:

During Trump’s campaign in 2015 and 2016, he frequently promised to build a “big, beautiful wall” along the southwest border with Mexico as a means of shoring up border security, stopping illegal immigration and drug smuggling.

Parts of the border have little in the way of fencing or barriers, while other parts feature substantial two-tiered security fencing.

In the $1.3 trillion spending bill Trump signed on Friday, there is funding for border walls in Jordan and Tunisia.

Many were quick to blame Trump for signing the legislation but the president said before he affixed he signature that the bill contains substantial funding increases for the U.S. military, which is vital to the nation’s security.

Military readiness has suffered under a decade’s worth of continuing resolutions, mostly during the Obama administration, as key weapons development programs were pushed back due to unreliable funding.

Trump also pledged on Friday that he would never again sign a massive spending bill “that nobody’s even read.”
