Sacramento homeowner says she won’t sell to a Trump voter

(National Sentinel[In]Tolerance: A homeowner in Sacramento has given her realtor specific instructions: Do not sell the home to anyone who voted for President Donald J. Trump.

As reported by CBS Sacramento, local attorney Allen Sawyer said he does not believe that “contractual term” is legal.

“That’s an unlawful contractual term that infringes the freedom of association and first amendment rights,” he told the local station.

That isn’t stopping the homeowner, however — though she may not get a straight answer (or any answer).

“We can ask somebody how they voted, but they don’t have to tell us,” said realtor Elizabeth Weintraub, adding that the request not to sell the home to a Trump supporter is a first for her.

CBS Sacramento noted further:

According to the Fair Housing Act, political party affiliation doesn’t fall into one of the seven protected classes. They include race, religion, color, disability, national origin, sex and familial status.

“People have a right to believe what they want to believe and they shouldn’t be restricted from purchasing property based on that,” Sawyer noted.
