(National Sentinel) Threat: The leader of the House Freedom Caucus said the chamber could move to begin impeachment proceedings against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein if he continues stonewalling congressional requests for information.
Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., told Judge Janine Pirro on her Fox News program Saturday evening that a growing number of House members are tired of waiting for the Justice Department to hand over subpoenaed documents related to ongoing investigations.
“I think that if he [Rosenstein] does not turn over the documents that there are a growing number of us on Capitol Hill that [believe] someone else needs to do the job,” he said.
He then suggested that impeachment could become an option if Rosenstein continued to ‘slow-walk’ the document requests.
President Donald J. Trump has also blasted the Justice Department over its continued reluctance to comply with congressional document requests pertaining to Obama-era investigations of his campaign.
During his interview, Meadows said that congressional investigators have found “coordination” between the Obama-era DoJ, FBI, and State Department regarding investigations into the Trump campaign for alleged “collusion” with Russia.
No evidence has been found to substantiate the allegations after nearly two years.
