(National Sentinel) Busted: Two presidents with a large New Jersey teacher’s union have been fired after the release of undercover video where they admitted protecting teachers who had assaulted or otherwise abused students.
In the videos, they could also be seen mocking the region’s public school students and referring to a teacher who allegedly had sex with a student but was never criminally charged.
The union leaders, Hamilton Township Education Association President David Perry and Union City Education Association President Kathleen Valencia, made the remarks on videos produced by “Project Veritas,” the undercover journalism project by activist James O’Keefe.
The New Jersey Education Association released a statement, which also criticized Project Veritas, for some reason, while announcing a review of its practices in the wake of the videos.
“To ensure that appropriate practices are followed, we are commissioning an independent review of the practices of our local affiliates and staff,” the NJEA said. “The purpose of that review is to ensure that every staff member and local affiliate leader understands and clearly communicates the responsibility of all school employees to report any suspected abuse of children.
“Based on that review, NJEA will undertake appropriate training to ensure that takes place in every local and in every instance. There is no place for any ambiguity about the responsibility of every adult, in every position within our public schools, to protect the wellbeing of all students,” the statement continued.
In the video Perry, who has a Ph.D., described how he would protect an abusive teacher.
“In other words, if you threatened the kid, you didn’t threaten the kid. You said ‘Knock it off or else.’”
“If [the teacher] actually said ‘knock it off or I’ll kill you,’ or ‘I’ll beat the shit out of you’ or ‘I’ll hurt you’ or ‘I’ll hurt your family,’ we don’t say that. It’s a mistake. It was out of the emotions. We don’t even log that in,” he added.
“I’m gonna let you know right now he came in the day after. Even though he didn’t, I would say he did. And the only record that this is, it stays here.”
He added that he is “here to defend even the worst people.”
In a separate video, Valencia referred her Project Veritas interviewer, who was pretending to be the sister of a Union City middle school teacher, to a file belonging to a teacher who had sex with a teenage female student and didn’t go to jail. The file, she said, was about whether the teacher would be allowed to keep his pension.
