New legislation from Steve King would put open borders lawbreakers like Oakland Mayor Schaaf behind bars

(National SentinelGet It Done: They say desperate times call for desperate measures. And when it comes to getting local officials to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, times are indeed desperate.

That’s why a new bill from Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, named after Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf — who recently tipped off illegal alien criminals to an impending ICE raid — is needed.

The bill would put local politicians like her behind bars for helping illegal aliens evade capture by federal immigration agents who were hired to enforce immigration laws.

During the February raid in and around Oakland, ICE agents arrested about 150 people believed to be in the U.S. illegally. The immigration agency said about half of them had criminal records and a sizeable number of those were for violent crimes.

But Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan said thanks to Schaaf’s warning, some 800 suspected non-citizens were able to evade capture.

“There’s 800 that we are unable to locate because of that warning, so that community is a lot less safe than it would have been,” Homan said during an appearance on Fox News.

He noted further that the sanctuary city mayor’s warning “is no better than a gang lookout yelling ‘police’ when a police cruiser comes in the neighborhood, except she did it to the entire community.”

Now, Schaaf is the unofficial poster child for King’s bill, the House’s latest effort to punish local officials for helping illegal aliens evade capture.

The legislation, known as the “Mayor Libby Schaaf Act,” would pass down a maximum 5-year prison sentence to public officials who tip off illegal aliens about pending ICE raids, Breitbart News reported.

“Sanctuary politicians are placing the lives of citizens and law enforcement officers in jeopardy by giving illegal aliens warnings about impending ICE actions in local jurisdictions,” King said in a statement. “This is obstruction of justice, and Americans do not have to put up with it.”

“I want lawless, Sanctuary City politicians to hear this message clearly: if you obstruct ICE, you are going to end up in the cooler,” King said.

The Justice Department is weighing its legal options against Schaaf for her actions.

And President Donald Trump himself has warned Schaaf directly that his administration is looking to prosecute her.

As The National Sentinal reported Monday, Schaaf is the target of a lawsuit by an immigration reform group that is demanding records related to her alleged cooperation with local law enforcement to subvert federal immigration statutes.

It’s not clear whether King’s bill has a chance of passing, but in the current environment, Americans are sick and tired of seeing local Left-wing open borders politicians openly flout immigration laws to harbor illegal alien criminals, all while putting American citizens’ lives in danger.

I think that bill is from King, not Scalise. Scalise piggy backed onto it for publicity. As a devoted Ryan follower, Scalise has a solid record of being very liberal on immigration and other things such as budgeting. He has never pushed for strong border security.

Scalise is positioning himself in case McCarthy fails to become Speaker, the establishment is so worried about that, so they have Scalise positioned as the alternative.
