DOUBLE trouble: Crooked Comey under IG investigation as Grassley singles out his use of secret Gmail account

(National SentinelHammer Drops: Crooked James Comey, the fired FBI director who oversaw the most disgraceful investigation in the history of the bureau, must have really believed the subject of that probe, Hillary Clinton, was going to be the next president.

There is no other way to explain his abuses of office and his decision to allow her to skate on multiple charges of obvious criminal mishandling of classified information.

Now his decisions to excuse her conduct while bending bureau rules and breaking laws himself are coming back to haunt him and, frankly, not a moment too soon.

On Monday Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz confirmed that Comey is now himself under investigation, and it isn’t being conducted by the same Deep State Hillary hacks who helped him cover up her wanton negligence.

As reported by The Daily Caller, Comey specifically is under investigation for leaking classified memos to a friend, who then leaked them to the media — all to spur the special counsel appointment of his friend, Robert Mueller.

“Comey said he did not expect a report on his handling of classified information because ‘That’s frivolous.’ I don’t happen to think that it is frivolous,” Sen. Chuck Grassley said during a Senate hearing Monday.

“Question number one, Mr. Horowitz, are you investigating the handling of his memo and does that include the classification issues, and should Mr. Comey expect a report when it’s complete?” Grassley asked.

“We received a referral on that from the FBI. We are handling that referral and we will issue a report when the matter is complete, consistent with the law and rules that are — a report that’s consistent and takes those into account,” Horowitz responded.

Note that Horowitz said he’d be issuing a report. That’s because IGs don’t have any prosecutorial power. However, recalled that Horowitz referred Andrew McCabe to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution; there’s nothing that says he won’t do so with Comey if he finds evidence of illegality.

Meanwhile, Grassley is also demanding an investigation into Comey’s improper use of a secret unclassified Gmail account to conduct bureau business.

In a letter sent to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Grassley gave him until June 29 to provide access to those emails.

“Comey’s frequent use of a personal email account for unclassified FBI business was ‘inconsistent with’ the policy statement for email use by the Justice Department, according to a report issued by the Office of the Inspector General.”

The findings were published on page 425 of the report.

Grassley noted the irony of Comey leading an investigation into Clinton’s criminal misuse of a private email account to conduct official business while he himself was doing the same thing.

“It is disturbing that FBI employees tasked with investigating Secretary Clinton, including
the former Director, appear to have engaged in strikingly similar conduct. Although it does not
appear as egregious and prolonged, they also used non-government systems for official work,” he wrote.

Now, the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman wants all of Comey’s emails to see if he also mishandled classified information.

Republicans need to do more than just demand things. Congress needs to reassert its constitutional authority to find members of government in contempt and then try them within the lawmaking body rather than trust the Justice Department to prosecute (when it clearly won’t).
