(National Sentinel) Civil War II: In recent weeks a growing number of political analysts and observers have opined that a second civil war has already begun in our country.
Incidents like what happened yesterday in Portland, Oregon, drive home their point.
As reported by The Oregonian, conservative Christian group Patriot Prayer was granted a permit to hold a rally at Terry Schrunk Federal Plaza. The demonstration was organized by Joey Gibson, U.S. Senate candidate for Washington and leader of the Vancouver-based group.
Before the rally even began, thugs claiming allegiance to “Antifa” showed up and it wasn’t long before the things got out of hand, causing the local police to declare a riot and revoke Patriot Prayer’s permit:
A counter-demonstration by masked local anti-fascist groups gathered nearby among a heavy police presence. Officers seized weapons such as utility knives, clubs and chemical sprays, detaining several protesters early on.
Things turned ugly shortly after 6 p.m., when Patriot Prayer protesters spilled into Third Avenue to begin their permitted march through the streets of Portland.
Antifascist counter-demonstrators immediately began lobbing eggs, half-empty water bottles and firecrackers at the conservative marchers, prompting federal police to fire paintballs filled with pepper spray into the crowd.
Portland police said four people were struck by the projectiles and had to be taken to the hospital. An officer was also struck and taken to the hospital.
The two groups continued heckling each other even as police intervened.
The bureau declared a riot and revoked the march permit soon after police said they witnessed several instances of assault and other criminal activity.
If this isn’t evidence of a nation bitterly divided, then nothing is.
Granted, there are no doubt some elements in both groups who take every opportunity to brawl in the streets because it gives them some weird sense of superiority.
But without a doubt, both groups share diametrically opposed political, social, religious, and cultural views, and they are willing to allow their corner of the world to devolve into anarchy to ‘make their point.’
Such high tension and aggression only ever escalate if there is no unification event — perhaps like an act of war or other national emergencies.
And even that may not unite us at this point.
Has the next American civil war begun? Are we living in times that are like those of the 1850s — the decade preceding the war?
Incidents like what happened in Portland Saturday evening are becoming the norm, not the exception.
That should help you answer the questions above.
