(National Sentinel) Fighting Back: When 28-year-old Democratic Socialist of America candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won a New York primary and unseated 10-term Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley, we forecast a “civil war” would engulf the Democratic Party.
And it has.
The far-Left faction is now warring with Ocasio-Cortez’s far, far Left faction following her surprise victory in a district that has been Crowley’s for 20 years.
Rank-and-file establishment Democrats and former Democrats are lining up to oppose Ocasio-Cortez’s agenda and even her candidacy, despite the fact that she’s already defeated Crowley in a primary earlier this month.
“Meteors fizz out,” said Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., said, as reported by The Hill.
“What she will learn in this institution is that it’s glacial to begin with, and therefore no matter how far you rise, that’s just how far you will ultimately get your comeuppance. You come up here and you’re going to be buddy-buddy with all the folks or you’re just going to make them do certain things? Ain’t happening, OK?”
The Hill noted further:
Some legislators are voicing concerns that Ocasio-Cortez appears set on using her newfound star power to attack Democrats from the left flank, threatening to divide the party — and undermine its chances at retaking the House — in a midterm election year when leaders are scrambling to form a united front against President Trump and Republicans.
“She’s carrying on and she ain’t gonna make friends that way,” said Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.). “Joe conceded, wished her well, said he would support her … so she doesn’t know what the hell she’s talking about.”
“She’s not asking my advice,” he added, “[but] I would do it differently, rather than make enemies of people.”
When asked if he believed that Ocasio-Cortez was making some enemies within her party, Pascrell was direct: “Yes. No doubt about it.”
Former Democratic senator-turned-Independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut penned an op-ed this week attacking Ocasio-Cortez’s Marxism, saying her agenda is “more Socialist and Democratic” and urging New Yorkers to back Crowley anyway, Fox News reported.
“[House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi] knows that if Democrats are to regain a majority, it will be by winning swing districts with sensible, mainstream candidates. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is making that task harder across America,” Lieberman wrote.
“Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America, whose platform, like hers, is more Socialist than Democratic. Her dreams of new federal spending would bankrupt the country or require very large tax increases, including on the working class,” he continued. “Her approach foresees government ownership of many private companies, which would decimate the economy and put millions out of work.”
Lieberman is right, of course. Ocasio-Cortez and the Marxist Left-wing lunatics siding with her and running a similar campaign would turn America into a giant Venezuela if given the chance.
That aside, it’s nice to see some division within the Democratic Party for a change. That should help pro-Trump Republicans in November.
