(National Sentinel) Wash, Rinse, Repeat: Over the weekend, the ‘controversy’ regarding Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in June 2016 flared again as though some new development had taken place.
POTUS Donald Trump tweeted two things everyone already knew: That he didn’t know the meeting had taken place and that yes, his son took the meeting after being promised dirt on a rival presidential candidate.
Who wouldn’t take such a meeting if they were running for president?
Nothing wrong or illegal about it. And this was certainly no “gotcha!” moment because again, we already knew that Don Jr. took the meeting on the promise Hillary dirt.
But let’s flashback even further and remember who else was at the Trump Tower meeting: Representatives from Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm that financed former British spy Christopher Steele, author of the infamous “Russia dossier” nothing burger.
— Donald Trump Jr.
— Jared Kushner (left early)
— Paul Manafort
— Natalia Veselnitskaya (Fusion GPS)
— Anatoli Samochornov (translator and Fusion GPS)
— Rinat Akhmetshin (lobbyist – Fusion GPS)
— Rob Goldstone
— Rep. of the Agalarov Family
It’s also important to remember that Veselnitskaya met with Fusion founder Glenn Simpson before and after the Trump Tower meeting in NYC.
News of the June 9, 2016, Trump Tower meeting was leaked to the press claiming that Don Jr. met Veselnitskaya because she said she had ‘dirt’ on Hillary.
Don Jr. said, of course, his father’s campaign would be interested in anything they could get on Hillary, no matter where it came from.
But that’s not what Veselnitskaya wanted the meeting for. She was there to lobby against the Magnitsky Act.
When it became apparent that was her only objective, Don Jr. ended the meeting about 20 minutes in — which is what he has said publicly.
According to an 1,800-page transcript of testimony Don Jr. and others gave to the Senate Judiciary Committee last year, it appears as though the president’s son was telling the truth.
The committee released the transcripts as the Trump Tower meeting first became a focus of special counsel Robert Mueller.
The Washington Post reported:
The excerpted testimony shows that attendees at the June 9, 2016 Trump Tower meeting largely agreed with Trump Jr.’s long-standing contention that the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, did not transmit dirt about Clinton. She has denied she was acting on behalf of the Russian government.
The same Post report also noted that according to testimony from an Agalarov family member, POTUS Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin never met.
And of course, let’s not forget that it was the Obama administration that let Veselnitskaya into the U.S. under special circumstances in the first place.
There is nothing new here. It’s just a repeat of previous nothingness in order to keep the president off-balance and on the defensive — rather than allow him to focus on running the country.
The one new twist is that some believe Mueller is eying Don Jr. for possible indictment, which would likely infuriate his commander-in-chief father. But as far as there being some new revelation bombshell regarding President Trump’s statement that the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting was set up to gather dirt on Hillary, everyone already knew that.
The only irony here is that the meeting including representatives from a real political opposition firm who was in the process of paying a former British spy to gather dirt on Donald Trump…from Russians.
