(National Sentinel) Playing Defense: Sen. Lindsey Graham defended both POTUS Donald Trump and his latest Supreme Court pick, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, against what he and other Republicans view as a coordinated Democratic attack on both.
The South Carolina Republican, in an interview with Fox News‘ Sean Hannity, decried Democratic tactics in smearing Kavanaugh with ginned up sexual assault allegations that have no corroborating witnesses or other evidence to substantiate them.
In addition, he defended POTUS Trump, noting that with the president, there are “no rules” or “boundaries” when it comes to Democrats trashing him and anyone associated with him.
“For [Democrats] to complain about the process [regarding Kavanaugh’s confirmation] is like an arsonist complaining about a fire,” he said. “The allegations against Judge Kavanaugh are collapsing. This has been the worst low point in the Senate for me and that is saying a lot.
“I never thought it would get this bad. We are going to have a hearing Thursday and have a vote soon thereafter. And I look forward to supporting this good man,” Graham noted further.
“The takeaway for me, Sean, is that when it comes to Donald Trump, there are no boundaries, there are no rules. Whatever you need to do to destroy him or his agenda is okay.”
Even if that means destroying a primary tenet of American jurisprudence: The presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
“Well, Democrats are willing to believe anything about a Trump nominee,” Graham continued.
“They didn’t believe anything about President Clinton, who had a long history of this. Here’s what I can tell you – this man, Judge Kavanaugh, has been in very responsible jobs for well over twenty years. Not one woman has ever come forward to say he acted inappropriately in the workplace, that he used his power in an untoward way,” he added.
And let’s not forget that Kavanaugh, throughout his time in government and on the federal bench, has been subjected to no fewer than six FBI background investigations — which are very thorough and very complete.
Graham’s characterization of Democrats was essentially the same as that of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who said on the Senate floor Monday:
This shameful, shameful smear campaign has hit a new low…Senate Democrats and their allies are trying to destroy a man’s personal and professional life on the basis of decades-old allegations that are unsubstantiated and uncorroborated.
Does this sound like Democratic Senators take their responsibility seriously and want to get to the truth? Or does it sound like a choreographed smear campaign?
We think the answer to those questions is obvious.
“What I know is the truth, and the truth is I’ve never sexually assaulted anyone,” Kavanaugh told Fox News‘ Martha MacCallum in an exclusive interview Monday.
POTUS Trump also expressed continued support for his SCOTUS pick.
“The Democrats are working hard to destroy a wonderful man, and a man who has the potential to be one of our greatest Supreme Court Justices ever, with an array of False Accusations the likes of which have never been seen before,” Trump tweeted Monday.
