(National Sentinel) Presidential: POTUS Donald Trump is considering taking executive action to stop the approaching migrant caravan from entering the United States legally by applying for asylum, according to a published report.
Politico said that the executive order would include a change in regulations as well, citing an official with the Department of Homeland Security, an administration official, and three others familiar with the expected action.
The site noted further:
Under the plan, the Trump administration would publish fast-track regulation that would restrict certain migrants’ ability to seek asylum. The regulation would be paired with a related proclamation from President Donald Trump.
The intense focus on immigration comes less than two weeks before the midterm elections. Democrats are favored to regain control of the House, but Republicans hope to retain competitive seats by digging in on a core issue.
“The administration is considering a wide range of administrative, legal and legislative options to address the Democrat-created crisis of mass illegal immigration,” a White House official said. “No decisions have been made at this time. Nor will we forecast to smugglers or caravans what precise strategies will or will not be deployed.”
On Thursday, former federal prosecutor Sydney Powell told Breitbart News Radio on SiriusXM that POTUS Trump has all the authority he needs, under the law, to halt the migrant caravan at the U.S. border — including most asylum seekers.
“It’s under 8 United States Code Section 1182 F,” she said. “It derives from the very clear language of the statute that says he can make a finding that it is in the national interest — it doesn’t even say national security; it just says in the national interest — to halt all immigration for any aliens, and that means any and all.”
Earlier this week, POTUS Trump declared the caravan a “national emergency.”
As Lifezette reported, one aspect that makes the caravan a national emergency is the existence of a criminal element within its ranks.
“Well, we have a national emergency right now, as far as I’m concerned, Laura,” former DEA Special Operations Division Special Agent in Charge Derek S. Maltz told host Laura Ingraham on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday.
Maltz added that the Central American caravan includes “massive amounts of people coming into our country with disease, with crime, with drugs.”
Ingraham asked “what could be embedded in this caravan,” and Maltz answered, “First of all, the terrorists are tapping into the criminal networks for funding. That’s number one.”
“Drugs are generating like $400 billion a year around the world, and right now we have young kids dying from the poison every single day … About [every] 11 minutes we have somebody dying from an opioid overdose, right,” he continued.
“So we have mass amounts of people coming into our country with disease, with crime, with drugs. And you know what? We have to put an end to it. Thank God President Donald Trump has stepped up and has sent the troops down there to kind of help us.”
