(National Sentinel) Turnabout: POTUS Donald Trump has proved once again that he’s a masterful counterpuncher, as his legal team has stuck back at porn star Stormy Daniels after a judge tossed her defamation lawsuit last month.
The president is seeking more than $300,000 in legal fees after a federal judge dismissed the suit and summarily determined that he was entitled to legal fees, the Washington Examiner reports.
In a Monday court filing, POTUS Trump’s legal team filed papers seeking $341,559.50 in attorney’s fees from the porn star who has been locked in a battle with the president since earlier this year over allegations of an extramarital affair.
When he suggested this spring that she was lying about the claim, she filed a defamation lawsuit.
The Trump court documents say Daniels “filed this action, not because it had any merit, but instead for the ulterior purposes of raising her media profile, engaging in political attacks against the president by herself and her attorney, who has appeared on more than 150 national television news interviews attacking the President and now is exploring a run for the presidency himself in 2020.”
Daniels’ attorney, Michael Avenatti, dismissed the filing.
“This is a number created out of whole cloth,” he told the Washington Examiner. “And it is nothing compared to what he will owe my client from the main NDA case.”
We’ll see, Michael.
Earlier this month, U.S. District Judge James Otero tossed Daniels’ defamation lawsuit against the president, which referenced a tweet he sent in April calling a forensic sketch of a man who allegedly threatened Daniels a “total con job.”
“The court agrees with Mr. Trump’s argument because the tweet in question constitutes ‘rhetorical hyperbole’ normally associated with politics and public discourse in the U.S.,” Otero wrote in his ruling earlier this month, adding that the First Amendment protected such language.
Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen paid Daniels $130,000 allegedly to buy her silence over the affair.
But she claimed the nondisclosure agreement was null because POTUS Trump hadn’t signed it. He, meanwhile, has denied any sexual relationship with Daniels.
