(National Sentinel) Laughable: Democrats have no hypocrisy gene, we’re sure of it.
That’s the only way they could believe that presidential adviser Ivanka Trump’s use of a private email account is a big deal, especially after Queen Bee Hillary got away with trafficking in classified emails via a private email server she had set up specifically to hide her activities.
Harvard Law School Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz, no flaming conservative, must think so too. He labeled Democrats’ calls to investigate Ivanka after the news broke that she was using a private email account “hypocrisy on parade” since the practice is widespread in the U.S. government and is, therefore, a “non-issue.”
“Well, I think it’s hypocrisy on parade. Each side uses whatever argument they can to help and bolster their partisan position,” Dershowitz told Fox News‘ Bill Hemmer on Tuesday when asked if Ivanka Trump’s personal email use is comparable to Clinton’s, who used her private account throughout her tenure as Obama’s secretary of state.
“Look, everybody uses private emails. We now have a list of probably a dozen people in public life who have used emails.
“Apparently, Ivanka Trump used the emails only for scheduling purposes. There was no classified material. The emails were all preserved. It’s a non-issue. It’s just partisan bickering,” he continued. “We should not be criminalizing the use of private emails, whether by Hillary Clinton or by Ivanka Trump. We should put that issue behind us.”
Well, except that there are transparency and disclosure policies in place throughout the federal government that forbids the use of private accounts for government business. There is also the Federal Records Act which requires outgoing public servants to turn over all government-related communications and documents to the National Archives.
Oh, and Obama’s own State Department said Clinton broke the rules and that the department would never have approved of her use of a private email server for government use.
Several things regarding Ivanka’s use of her private email account:
- She had never before been part of the federal government so she had no knowledge of the rules regarding private email accounts; Clinton had been a first lady and a U.S. senator prior to being named secretary of state and she signed a non-disclosure form;
- Ivanka did not traffic in any classified information and used it for scheduling matters regarding her family;
- Her attorney, Abbe Lowell, told The Washington Post (which apparently forgot about Clinton’s illegal email use), “When concerns were raised in the press 14 months ago, Ms. Trump reviewed and verified her email use with White House Counsel and explained the issue to congressional leaders” — so this is old news;
- Ivanka has also affirmed to the appropriate government and congressional officials that she never deleted any emails while Clinton deleted more than 30,000.
Democrats are gearing up for two years’ worth of activism, not legislation, when they take control of the House in January.
Good luck trying to keep control in 2020 if your focus is going to be garbage like this.
