RNC chair Ronna Romney McDaniel slams uncle Mitt over criticism of POTUS

If you were wondering which ‘side’ Ronna Romney McDaniel, head of the Republican National Committee, would take in the brouhaha dust-up between her Uncle Mitt and POTUS Donald Trump, that question has been answered.

It’s not Uncle Mitt.

As reported by Politico:

McDaniel was critical of Romney, referring to him in a post to Twitter only as “an incoming Republican freshman senator.” Romney, who will be sworn in as a senator from Utah later this week, authored a scathing op-ed published Tuesday by The Washington Post in which he wrote that Trump “has not risen to the mantle” of the presidency.

“POTUS is attacked and obstructed by the MSM media and Democrats 24/7,” McDaniel wrote on Twitter. “For an incoming Republican freshman senator to attack @realDonaldTrump as their first act feeds into what the Democrats and media want and is disappointing and unproductive.”

The president and the incoming Utah senator have had their ups and downs. POTUS endorsed Romney during his second bid for the presidency in 2012, but Romney initially rebuked POTUS when he won the 2016 nomination. Later the two made up — sort of — and POTUS endorsed Romney in his Senate race.

As for McDaniel’s tweet, former RNC Chairman Michael Steele said she likely picked the president’s side because she “wants to keep her job” as head of his party, Politico noted.

“@GOPChairwoman walking a tight rope? Not really. She leads the political org. of the President and will say (and tweet) as instructed. To refer to Mitt so impersonally reflected that,” he tweeted. “Her loyalty runs direct to Trump not her uncle—if she wants to keep her job.”

Perhaps. Family ties run deep.

But maybe she simply disagrees with her uncle and did not want to call him out by name because they are family.

Whatever the reason, she did have a choice over which side to take; it’s hard to imagine the head of a major political party being without a job for long if she chose ‘incorrectly.’

That said, McDaniel’s tweet was spot on. POTUS is assailed daily by a very biased “mainstream” media. Even the former editor of The New York Times thinks so.

As for Democrats, their obstructionism speaks for itself. — Jon Dougherty
