While several Democrats have openly discussed their desire to impeach POTUS Donald Trump, even filing articles of impeachment on Day One of the new 116th Congress, several members of the party are reportedly furious at freshman Dem Rep. Rashida Tlaib over her vulgar pledge to do just that after being sworn in late last week.
The Michigan Democrat and first-ever Palestinian American woman elected to Congress upset party members and outraged Republicans after a video of her during an appearance at an event sponsored by MoveOn.org for incoming Democrats of her promising to “impeach the motherf**ker” went viral.
As Politico reported, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and other top Dems have said for months that impeachment should be and would be a last resort and would come after current exhaustive investigations — including the never-ending, just-extended probe by special counsel Robert Mueller — are concluded.
“Mueller hasn’t even produced his report yet!” said Rep. Ron Kind, D-Wis. “People should cool their jets a little bit, let the prosecutors do their job and finish the investigation.”
“Inappropriate,” added Rep. Jim Costa, D-Calif. “As elected officials, I think we should be expected to set a high bar… It’s not helpful.”
Even Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., who actually introduced an impeachment resolution earlier this week, appeared shocked, Politico reported.
“His eyes bulged in disbelief when a reporter read him Tlaib’s comments and he was speechless for several seconds,” the news site noted.
Whether these acts of ‘shock’ are genuine or not remains to be seen, considering that Democrats’ Trump Derangement Syndrome has gotten worse as the president’s term progresses.
But it won’t matter if the House eventually votes to impeach; it’s difficult to imagine a scenario where the GOP-controlled Senate could muster the two-thirds necessary to ‘convict’ and thus remove Trump from office.
