POTUS Trump teases ‘major announcement’ on border crisis: Is a deal in the offing?

President Donald Trump on Friday teased a “major announcement” from the White House regarding the ongoing government shutdown and “humanitarian crisis” along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown, tomorrow afternoon at 3 P.M., live from the @WhiteHouse,” he wrote on Twitter.

The tweet comes amid the longest government shutdown in history — longer than a month — as Democrats have refused to even discuss a resolution that includes the president’s $5.7 billion funding request for expanded border barriers.

CBS News reported Friday that POTUS will likely lay out a potential deal to end the shutdown during his Saturday announcement that was reportedly influenced by Vice President Mike Pence, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

It’s not clear at this point if any Democrats were involved, the report noted.

The solution was influenced by discussions between Vice President Mike Pence, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to the report. It’s unclear if any Democrats were involved in the discussions.

POTUS has threatened to declare a national emergency to secure funds to construct portions of the border wall he has long promised and Democrats once supported before he was president.

“I may go that route. I have the absolute right to do national emergency if I want,” he said earlier this month.

He has also said that he has no plans to back down from his budget request, which he has said is vital to the security of the country — both from infiltration of dangerous criminals and the smuggling of deadly drugs.
