Fed up: Trump calls Ann Coulter ‘whacky nut job’ as he schools her on his border progress

By Jon Dougherty

Granted, POTUS Donald Trump has not made the kind of progress he hoped he’d make in building his promised border wall, but that’s not to say he hasn’t gotten anything done at all.

And he wants conservative pundit Ann Coulter, who has turned from a rabid supporter into just another rabid, unhinged critic, to understand that.

Coulter, of course, was one of President Donald Trump’s earliest and most enthusiastic supporters. She was so enthusiastic about candidate Trump’s promise to build a border wall and enforce all immigration laws, she even wrote a bestselling book about his candidacy, “In Trump We Trust,” which followed another bestseller, “Adios, America,” in which she predicted that unlimited illegal immigration would destroy the U.S.

But two years into his presidency, the president hasn’t been able to fulfill all of his border security promises. Much of the wall has not been built, and that has frustrated Coulter.

As such, she has been increasingly public — and vitriolic — with her criticism of the president, blaming him for being ineffective in getting a border wall built, despite endless resistance from federal courts, Democrats, and, of course, RINOs.

Stung by the criticism and fed up with her constant carping, the president unloaded on Coulter over the weekend on Twitter.

He called her a “whacky nut job” and explained that despite her complaints, he’s managed to make remarkable progress in border security despite all the resistance.

“Wacky Nut Job Ann Coulter, who still hasn’t figured out that, despite all odds and an entire Democrat Party of Far Left Radicals against me (not to mention certain Republicans who are sadly unwilling to fight), I am winning on the Border. Major sections of Wall are being built,” he wrote, adding, “… and renovated, with MUCH MORE to follow shortly. Tens of thousands of illegals are being apprehended (captured) at the Border and NOT allowed into our Country. With another President, millions would be pouring in. I am stopping an invasion as the Wall gets built.”

In February Coulter said failure to get the wall built wasn’t former House Speaker Paul Ryan’s fault or that of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, but Trump’s. [Coulter-Trump-Twitter-1.jpg]

Meanwhile, the president’s Twitter war with Coulter comes days after Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen testified before Congress that border authorities at DHS expect 1 million illegal aliens to arrive at the U.S.-Mexico border this year, a dramatic spike over previous years, which constitutes an emergency.

And, according to a press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection last week, more than 700 illegal immigrants were caught in one sector earlier, including a pair of sex offenders who had been previously deported from the country.

“U.S. Border Patrol agents working in El Paso apprehended several large groups between last night and late afternoon Wednesday. These groups, like many others before, are comprised primarily of Central American families and unaccompanied juveniles,” a statement from CBP read.

“Agents apprehended a group of 112 illegal aliens at the border wall near downtown just after midnight. At about the same time agents working further east were processing a group of 252 aliens apprehended at the border just west of Bowie High School,” the statement continued.

“Throughout the morning hours several smaller groups also arrived at multiple locations along the border in the El Paso metropolitan area. In just a few hours the total number taken into custody exceeded 500.  An unaccompanied 2-year-old child was also found among one of the groups. The U. S. Border Patrol is currently working with international and domestic agencies in order to locate the parent(s).

So bad is the emergency at the border that even The New York Times was forced last week to take note of it, reporting in a headline, “Border at ‘Breaking Point’ as More than 76,000 Unauthorized Migrants Cross in a Month” in response to the data.

“The number of migrant families crossing the southwest border has once again broken records, with unauthorized entries nearly double what they were a year ago, suggesting that the Trump administration’s aggressive policies have not discouraged new migration to the United States,” the story read.

And by the way, for those keeping score, it should be noted that Democrats and Republicans are still fighting the president over his border security efforts – this time his emergency declaration along the border, which he believes he’ll eventually prevail in federal court.

But of course, court battles take months or years.
