Former FBI Director James Comey, he of Deep State status and whose role in the “Spygate” coup attempt against his former boss, President Donald Trump, has still yet to be fully exposed, joined the ranks of Democrats who no longer want to see him impeached.
“Because if Mr. Trump were removed from office by Congress,” he continued, “a significant portion of this country would see this as a coup, and it would drive those people farther from the common center of American life, more deeply fracturing our country.”
Surely, he doesn’t wonder why we’d see it that way?
Nevertheless, Comey hasn’t suddenly become a fan of POTUS. He explained how he’d like to see this play out: He wants to see someone beat him in 2020 because that way, his defeat will be “much harder to distort, or to nurse as a grievance” than if he were impeached.
“We need a resounding election result in 2020,” Comey explained, “where Americans of all stripes, divided as they may be about important policy issues — immigration, guns, abortion, climate change, regulation, taxes — take a moment from their busy lives to show that they are united by something even more important: the belief that the president of the United States cannot be a chronic liar who repeatedly attacks the rule of law.”
Oh, but the FBI director and most of the top officials working under him can lie with impunity. And attempt to overthrow a president they don’t like. And take an active part in dividing the country down irreconcilable political lines.
Interestingly, Comey’s comment comes on the heels of a similar statement made by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), earlier this month, claiming he’s “not worth it.”
These reversals sound suspiciously like they are coming from individuals in the know who don’t believe the upcoming report from special counsel Robert Mueller will contain any immediately impeachable offenses.
Comey, like Pelosi and newly empowered House Democrats, is playing the long game here. None of them have given up on deposing POTUS Trump.
They just know they can’t do it before 2020.
