You’ve heard the climate alarmists before: Melting ice at the polar caps is a sure sign that humans and their advancing technologies are destroying the planet and unless we do something, the world will be lost.
In fact, the latest doom-and-gloom forecast didn’t even come from a climate scientist; it came from a 29-year-old former bartender-turned-U.S. congressperson, Alexandria Ocasio (like) Cortez.
“There’s scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult. And it does lead young people to have a legitimate question: Is it OK to still have children?” she said, speaking to her 2.5 million Instagram followers last month.
Granted, she was citing the latest doom-and-gloom forecast from that globalist climate hysteria clearinghouse, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which said (again) last fall that we’ve only got 12 years left to ‘save the planet.’
But is that really true?
It hasn’t been true in the past when some of the same climate alarmists have made the same predictions, and it doesn’t appear to be true this time, either.
Scientists studying a key glacier were shocked — shocked! — to discover recently that a short pattern of receding has now been reversed.
According to a new report, the Jakobshavn glacier “around 2012 was retreating about 1.8 miles and thinning nearly 130 feet annually,” The Associated Press reported.
This important glacier in Greenland is massive, measuring about 1 mile in thickness. In fact, a huge ‘shard’ of this glacier is believed to have been responsible for sinking the Titanic.
For the past few years, ‘experts’ have been pointing to the glacier’s retreat as proof (!) that human-caused global warming was real, was happening, and you know, there’s this consensus about it.
But things changed a few years ago; the glacier began growing again. Uh-oh; there goes the narrative, right?
“Ocean temperatures in the bay’s upper 250 m have cooled to levels not seen since the mid-1980s,” a new glacier study found.
“That was kind of a surprise. We kind of got used to a runaway system,” said Jason Box, a scientist who works with the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland.
But this is good news, right? After all, it indicates that humans aren’t really responsible for destroying the planet and, even better news, we’ve got longer than 12 years to live.
You might think that, but as usual, no matter what happens regarding climate, it’s bad and it’s your fault.
Some scientists had to admit that the new glacial growth was occurring outside of human influence.
“A natural cyclical cooling of North Atlantic waters likely caused the glacier to reverse course, said study lead author Ala Khazendar, a NASA glaciologist on the Oceans Melting Greenland project,” the AP reported. “The water in Disko Bay, where Jakobshavn hits the ocean, is about 3.6 degrees cooler than a few years ago.”
“Natural cyclical cooling” — keyword natural — would sometimes beget ‘natural cyclical warming‘ as well, right?
No, you ignorant non-weather/climate guy/gal/person, you.
“(T)his is bad news on the long term because it tells scientists that ocean temperature is a bigger player in glacier retreats and advances than previously thought,” the AP said.
University of Washington ice scientist Ian Joughin called the glacial expansion “a temporary blip” while predicting (stop us if you’ve heard this story before) that the glacier would continue to melt despite the fact that the data shows the opposition.
Added NASA climate scientist Josh Willis: “In the long run we’ll probably have to raise our predictions of sea level rise again.”
Well, sure. Because, again, cyclical.
So you see, no matter what happens, the climate alarmists will use whatever the data show to claim that a) it’s bad news for the planet; and b) We need fewer cars, fewer power grids, fewer cattle farts, and a lot fewer people. Oh, whatever money you happen to earn will need to be confiscated to fund the “fight against climate change.”
